Don’t Covenant with Death (Part 10)
Resurrection NOT Death: Living in Agreement with the Risen King
INTRODUCTION
Key Scriptures:
Jesus says,
{John 8:51} ... “Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone follows My word, he will never see death.”
The apostolic witness declares,
{Romans 6:4} ... “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life.”
{Colossians 2:12–15} “... Having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And when you were dead in your wrongdoings and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our wrongdoings, having canceled the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us… He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.”
Jesus died to provide us with a better moral framework and a future hope. But much more than that, He died to destroy death’s power in the here and now. The resurrection isn’t just a future event. It is a present reality that believers are called to walk in. This essay concludes the “Don’t Covenant with Death” series by turning our focus to the ultimate solution: resurrection life. The Ekklesia was born in the power of the resurrection, filled with power and glory. We do not coexist with death. We are called to conquer it.
THE COVENANT OF LIFE
Resurrection is a covenant privilege extended to us by grace, through faith. To follow Jesus is to enter into a covenant with life, not simply escape the future judgments of hell. Many believers live with an “escape” mindset, believing that resurrection power is only relevant at the end of their earthly life. But Scripture teaches us that eternal life begins now. We were buried with Him and raised with Him, so that we would walk in newness of life.
This is the believer’s current spiritual state:
Raised from death.
Alive in Christ.
Empowered by His Spirit.
Set apart as sons and daughters of resurrection.
OVERCOMING THE SPIRIT OF DEATH
The spirit of death whispers:
“You’ll always struggle with that.”
“This will never change.”
“The past defines you.”
“You’ve missed your chance.”
But resurrection life declares:
“You are a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“The old has passed away.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“God is doing a new thing.” (Isaiah 43:19)
“Jesus holds the keys of death and Hades.” (Revelation 1:18)
We must stop agreeing with the voice of death. If you speak words of fear, despair, or finality over your life or others, you are inadvertently prophesying for the wrong kingdom. It’s time to break those agreements and speak the truth of resurrection.
RESURRECTION IS A LIFESTYLE
The call of the Ekklesia, as the King’s ruling assembly, the government of God on planet Earth, is to oppose the spirit of death with resurrection power. That means our homes, words, ministries, relationships, and thoughts must continuously reflect the victory of the Risen King. How?
By refusing to make peace with spiritual indifference.
By warring against hopelessness and despair.
By declaring that Jesus is the resurrection and the life, in this moment.
We don’t glorify death in our art, our language, our décor, our recreational activities, or our theology. We glorify the Living One, who trampled death under His feet.
PRACTICAL STEPS FOR LIVING RESURRECTION TRUTH
{Colossians 2:15} ... “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.”
Declare Resurrection Truth daily. Speak what Scripture says about your identity, purpose, and destiny.
Sanctify Your Atmosphere. Let your home and speech reflect joy, worship, and hope; banish language that glorifies loss, fear, or fatalism.
Break Verbal Agreements with death, trauma, failure, and fear. Declare the power of life in your covenant with Jesus.
Live prophetically. Make lifestyle decisions that proclaim: “I am living in the power of His resurrection.”
Honor the Resurrection in your testimony. Your personal story is a declaration that death didn’t win.
HOUSE CHURCH/SMALL GROUP APPLICATION
Group Reflection: In what areas have we made unconscious agreements with death instead of resurrection?
Testimony Time: Share stories of resurrection power in your life—where God reversed the irreversible.
Prophetic Declaration: As a group, pray and declare, “We will live and not die to declare the works of the Lord” (Psalm 118:17).
Home Activation: Anoint your doorposts and declare your house to be a sanctuary of resurrection life—not a resting place for spiritual death.
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS
1. Do my words and thoughts reflect a resurrection mindset or a fear of death?
2. Where have I allowed fatalism or passivity to replace hope and power?
3. What does it look like for my home to be a resurrection altar?
Jesus promised,
{John 11:25–26} ... “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?’”
Do you believe this?
